Friday Crafternoon v.7 (and happy weekend!)

Hey there everyone! A special hello to a few new friends; I hope you enjoy what you find here at Our Little Lentil and please leave any comments to let me know what you think :)

There is SO much inspiration out there on the internet. It's hard to organize all that wonderful, colorful, creative, unique stuff that I find. Usually ideas just sit in my bookmarks folders for... um... years? So having this space to highlight some of the projects I find is so good for me. I get to remember what I thought was so cool to begin with!

I hope you enjoy your weekend. We're in the midst of a sleep-strike it seems. Adelaide has conquered some new skills that she wants to practice for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. It's a back-and-forth struggle of sitting up and me laying her back down, among other things. STRESSFUL! I feel bad for poor Kevin, who has to get up to work and isn't able to take naps... then I feel bad for me when I think of how this may not get any better and then I'LL have to be getting up to run after hundreds of kids all day without a nap either!

Anyhow. Hopefully I'll find time to spend at my sewing machine, or with some paper for some crafts that I've got in mind. I've also been contemplating going to a non-instruction figure drawing class on Saturday morning. I know I'll be awake :) so I thought I might go try something that I used to love doing! I'll let you know!

I love this paper-embroidered magnetic bookmark! Fun gifts, and I can see adapting the idea for my classroom too!

This drawstring bag would be perfect for wooden blocks, flash cards, or small figurines!

And this would be a perfect market bag! And it's reversible!

One more bag: it's titled an Apple-Picking Bag, but I see it as a perfect bag for library books with it's boxy shape... just add a sturdy piece of cardboard at the bottom for support!

Fall will be here before you know it! Make a felt hat for your little one... super cute!

Easy peasy hair band.

I made a few of these pom pom flowers about a year ago. They are no more, due to a crazed baby.

These owl printables are cute, if not a little scary-looking. Add some googly eyes to liven them up!

Want to make your own soap? Another way to control what ingredients you bring into your house and onto your body!

So. Freakin'. Cute. An elephant push toy easy to customize, perfect for that little kid in your life.

And finally... do you use those disposable swiffer pads? Think of all the waste. Make some reusable swiffer pads that can be tossed in your washer and used again and again! Use old towels, or splurge on terrycloth that matches your kitchen!

Make one of these felt crayon/notebook holders to keep in your purse or diaper bag for occupying your kids. Long car trips, restaurants, grocery store, you name it!

Create & Enjoy!

Friday Crafternoon v.6

It's already been another week??? Holy cow, time is flying. I can't believe it's August already!

Anyhow, we're leaving tomorrow a.m. for Asheville, a place that holds my heart. Well, not Asheville specifically, but the mountains. I went to college there, got married there, and someday I want to live there. I can picture myself in a remote cabin on a lot of land, growing a garden and tending chickens, with laundry drying in the sun, my baby (babies?) playing in the woods. Picturesque, ideal, and definitely doable in it's own time. Someday, someday.

Anyhow, I've actually been able to craft a little bit this week! I've made it a point to spend some time at the sewing machine, though I won't tell you what I've been working on exactly. I'm making a gift for someone, and I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise. But the important thing is: I'm CREATING. And it feels GOOD.

Here's some crafty inspiration for you. I hope you find time to sit at your sewing machine, or with your paint, or scissors, or even in the kitchen... where ever you go to MAKE SOMETHING!

I picked up a ton of paint chips the other day, for this mobile idea and this art piece idea. I plan to work on the latter during our road trip this weekend!

I can totally see me wearing this necklace. And I can see how it would be a great project for some older kids... seems very camp-y to me.

I love this windchime! The bright colors, the patterns!

With all the storms lately, I'm sure there are some downed branches in the woods I could gather for a project like this! So pretty!

I love Shel Silverstein. When my bestie Hannah and I were teens, we stayed up super late one night cutting out letters and illustrations from construction paper to recreate "The Castle" by Shel on her bedroom wall. A lot of letters and a lot of taping later, it looked awesome! These stitched works reminded me of that!

Gorgeous. I've used sunprint paper to make a print of my engagement ring. And of course in my art classroom. This take on sunprinting is so pretty to me!

I can't wait to make toys for Adelaide (well, more advanced toys)... like this fishing game (though I hate real fishing).

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Friday Crafternoon v.5

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. We're travelling to my mom's house to visit tomorrow and Sunday... our second overnight trip. I'm crossing my fingers that Adelaide takes a break from this horrible sleeping spell that we're on. I'll be sure to let you all know how it goes!

Here are some creative links for you all to check out... happy weekend!

I'll take one of each! Beautiful unique way to use felt. I may go shopping soon!

If I ever get an iPhone, I'm going here for a case. This seahorse case is TOTALLY my aesthetic.

I am in love with this junk mail art!

Easy-to-follow video tutorial for making a skirt in an hour!

Or how about this really, really cute pleated skirt? I'm not usually a skirt-wearer, but I might make one for when I go back to work!

And speaking of going back to work, I lug my laptop back and forth every day... is it finally time for a laptop bag? I'm thinking yes.

Save stained shirts! With a baby now eating solids, there are a lot more stains showing up on her clothes... Instead of tossing them, I should save them!

And if the shirts really are unsaveable, cut them up and make some headbands!

Now if only Adelaide will sleep so I can make some of this stuff!

Friday Crafternoon v.3

Whoops! I missed last week. Time has a tendency to disappear around here. Do you ever have that problem? Geesh.

Anyway, some awesome stuff to inspire you:

Rainbow Hem T-shirt Skirt detail

Love, love, love these little creatures. Definitely going in my "teaching ideas" folder!

The first picture makes me drool. I'm in love with repetition, order, and all things symmetrical.

Lots of awesome kid furniture here. I'm loving the xylophone table and indoor swing!

Quick and easy project to add a little fun to your summer dining room table!

Easy and so very pretty. What a way to dress up a plain skirt. Plus you can pick and choose what colors you use. I'm thinking lime green, teal, and white for me!
